Complete (Fill in text)

The complete type evaluates exercises where the user writes a word or phrase in a blank space within a text. Accepts multiple correct alternative answers.

Evaluation strategy

Identical to fill_blank: case-insensitive comparison with trim. If correctAnswer is an array, the user’s answer only needs to match one of the alternatives.

When to use it

Use complete when the exercise presents a text with blank spaces and asks the user to write the correct word. It is equivalent to fill_blank but semantically clearer for “Complete the text” exercises.

Request

{
"exerciseId": "ex_complete_001",
"area": "vocabulary",
"type": "complete",
"answer": "She",
"correctAnswer": "She"
}

With multiple alternatives

{
"exerciseId": "ex_complete_002",
"area": "grammar",
"type": "complete",
"answer": "him",
"correctAnswer": ["him", "He"]
}

Response

{
"correct": true,
"score": 10,
"feedback": "Correct!",
"metadata": {
"area": "grammar",
"type": "complete"
}
}

Real exercise example

Exercise text:

Tom has a sister. ___ is very kind.

{
"exerciseId": "listening_u1_01",
"area": "vocabulary",
"type": "complete",
"answer": "She",
"correctAnswer": "She"
}

Notes

  • Comparison is case-insensitive: "she" and "She" are both correct.
  • correctAnswer accepts string (single answer) or string[] (multiple valid alternatives).
  • If correctAnswer is not sent, the evaluation returns false with an error feedback.
